State Secretary for European Affairs, Ms Ana Blazheska today participated on the eighth High-level meeting "Global forces, local voices: People power in the globalized world" in Andorra.
At the meeting dedicated to globalisation, Ms Blazheska was speaking on the first panel of the meeting, on topic "Re-thinking globalization". State Secretary Blazheska in her address referred to several aspects of the globalization, speaking of what can be done in order to avoid the increase of inequality that is seemingly inevitable in the globalization era. The democratic and economic institutions are equally important in order to get rid of the middle income trap and realise sustainable growth, because a good balance between economy and democracy needs to be established, she stressed.
Big businesses not only control entire sectors of mass economies and the electronic mass media, they also have a vast influence within political parties, added Ms Blazheska. In her opinion, balancing of the power of business groups and labour organisations coupled with public participation in the decision making processes related to laws and policies, as well as the existence of accountable parties are precondition for the modern idea of democracy from the end of the twentieth century.
The High-level meeting is being held in Andorra la Vella, Andorra, organised by Nizami Gandzhavi International Center. Members of the Center, as well as former prime ministers, ministers and ambassadors from several countries and current senior officials attended the meeting.
