Today, on the occasion of the International Environment Day, which is held annually on June 5th in the world, and of course within the European Union, the Secretariat for European Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning and the Embassy of the Republic France organised a debate within the "EU Talks" on "Paris Agreement-Climate change", which was attended by the representatives of relevant ministries, civil society organisations and university professors. "
Deputy Prime Minister Ademi stressed that climate change is a global challenge and that first of all, it affects human health and overall flora and fauna while having serious implications on the world economy as well as each region individually. Therefore, the climate change can not be seen as an isolated challenge but at the same time we need to approach together, systemic and responsibly.
"The process of approximation of the national legislation to the European legislation in the field of climate change led to the adoption of a number of principles for reporting and monitoring measures for climate change mitigation applied by Member States of the European Union. - said Ademi.
By signing the Paris Agreement on Climate Change (April 2016). The Republic of Macedonia continues with its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by maintaining the increase in global average temperature below 2°C.
The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Mr. Ahmeti welcomed the idea of further organisation of such open debates on the topic of environment within the campaign "EU Talks" between all concerned stakeholders and expressed readiness to continue the debate in the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning.
The Ambassador of France, H.E. Laurence Auer, strongly supported this type of open debate between government, civil society and scientific profession. She noted that the French Republic was making enormous efforts in the field of climate change not only as a host country for the signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change of which it is expected that all countries contribute to the global objectives of maintaining the rise of the global average temperature below 2°C. Also Paris Summit that will be held on July 4th, 2016 in Paris was significant in the context of climate change since a new dimension to the greening of soft measures is offered.
Today's debate is a continuation of the campaign "EU Talks" which, through open, professional and constructive debate among various stakeholders on current topics and issues, aims at contributing the calibration of common positions, guidelines and suggestions that can lead to solutions.
