Deputy President of the Government in charge of European Affairs, Dr. Arbr Ademi today had a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in our country, HE Mr. Branko Rakovec.
Ademi briefly informed Mr. Rakovec for last week"s official visit to the Republic of Slovenia and expressed gratitude for the support of his part in its realisation.
During the meeting, they also discussed the current political situation in the country, the bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the support that our country receives from the Republic of Slovenia on its EU integration path.
In terms of political developments in Macedonia, the Deputy Prime Minister Ademi referred to the recent events in the country, which is in an extremely complex political situation and expressed confidence that the cancelled leaders’ meeting in Vienna under the auspices of Commissioner Hahn and three members of the European Parliament shall urgently encourage the political leaders to seek a new way out of the crisis and a positive outcome. Ademi stressed the need to follow the postulates of political agreement and to organise credible and inclusive elections that will be recognised by the international community.
In this context support from Slovenia was requested on retention of the recommendation to start negotiations, which for us is very important, and it was stated that we are not supposed to be valued only by the current situation, but also by the overall progress so far.
Regarding the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the interlocutors jointly assessed it is on an exceptionally high level and both countries have strategic partnership characterised by continued support for the process of Euro-Atlantic integration. It was also concluded that there are conditions for further deepening of cooperation in the economic and trade relations.
In terms of the migration crisis, Ambassador Rakovec stressed the positive and constructive role of Macedonia in dealing with the crisis and its contribution in prevention of attempts for illegal transit on the Macedonian- Greek border, Macedonia’s role was assessed as very important and as clear contribution to the overall plan of the EU for dealing with the migration crisis.
The interlocutors also addressed the importance of the good neighbourly relations and the regional cooperation and once again highlighted that the bilateral disputes shall not impede Western Balkans countries’ path to the EU.
