Within the working visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Arbër Ademi, today had a meeting with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Johannes Hahn. During the meeting they discussed some current topics related to the process of European integration, especially the political situation, the electoral process, the EU support and migration.
In this context Ademi informed about the implementation of the commitments of the July 20 Agreement that are important precondition for the organisation of democratic and credible elections. They welcomed the assessment of the political leaders on the fulfilment of the preconditions for conducting the elections in December as a positive step towards resolving the protracted political crisis in the country. Therefore it was pointed out that it is extremely important in the coming period for all political actors to contribute to the continuation of our EU integration process. Commissioner Hahn emphasised the need for continued and adequate political and institutional support for the work of the Special Public Prosecution. They also discussed the need to work intensively on implementation of Urgent Reform Priorities, given that they apply to areas that are key to the rule of law, particularly the judiciary and public administration, full implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement.
Regarding the issue of migration, Deputy Prime Minister Ademi and Commissioner Hahn agreed that it is necessary to enhance the cooperation and information exchange among the countries from the region and the EU, in order to better coordinate the activities and avoid situations with an increased influx of migrants and to reduce the phenomenon of illegal migration, given that migration crisis is not only an issue for only one country and one region, but is an issue that requires strong international engagement, excellent coordination and rapid action by all actors. In this context, Commissioner Hahn highlighted the contribution of Macedonia in dealing with the migration crisis and preventing illegal migration.
