The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European affairs, Bojan Maricik, today had a meeting with the Member of Parliament and President of the Foreign Policy Committee in the German Bundestag, Michael Roth, in the presence of the German Ambassador H.E. Anke Holstein and the State Secretary of the SEP, Drita Abdiu - Halili, where they discussed the next phase in the European integration process and the importance of the smooth running of the screening process.
Deputy Prime Minister Maricik informed Roth on the steps the country is taking after accepting the French proposal, as well as the upcoming amendments of the Constitution. Deputy Prime Minister Maricik and MP Roth agreed that in the process of constitutional amendments, it is necessary for all political stakeholders to stand behind the state interest, in order for the negotiation process to run smoothly.
At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Maricik briefed Roth on the process of preparations for the screening, which begins on September 15, as well as on the revised negotiation structure that will be adopted next week, stressing that the institutions after the coordination meetings are intensively preparing for the next phase in European integration, which is the screening.
Maricik and Roth confirmed that looking from today's perspective, when Europe and the world are facing new challenges, every effort made in the direction of bringing the country closer to the EU and the certain full- fledged membership of North Macedonia in the Union is valued.
The European Union is not only a political project, it is also a peaceful one, confirmed Maricik and Roth at the meeting. Roth added that North Macedonia has done a lot in fulfilling the European criteria and that we have a good foundation prepared in this way, we will conduct the negotiations with good dynamics, and we will have the support of the Federal Republic of Germany to speed up reforms and align with EU standards, to prepare promptly and to become a European Union member state.
Within the visit to North Macedonia, the MP of the German Bundestag, Michael Roth, who is also the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag, also has meetings with the President Stevo Pendarovski, the Speaker of the Assembly Talat Xhaferi, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani and with the president of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Antonio Miloshoski.
