Osmani-Reka: Strengthened regional cooperation is key for the EU integration of Western Balkans

Today Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs Bujar Osmani had a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania, Fatos Reka. Deputy Prime Minister Osmani said that the EU membership is a common objective of Macedonia and Albania and expressed confidence that the countries can provide mutual support in this process.
"I am convinced that in time like this, when EU is facing many challenges, the integration of the Western Balkans should be perceived as solution in dealing with these challenges. Complete integration of all countries from Western Balkans in the European Union and in NATO is necssary", stated Osmani. He stressed that support from our neighbour is necessary for membership of the Republic of Macedonia in NATO, especially in the forthcoming period, adding that he expects support from Albania for Macedonia"s membership in the Adriatic-Ionian Region and Strategy. Deputy Prime Minister Osmani also pointed out the opening of the Regional Youth Cooperation Office in Tirana as another opportunity to strengthen the cooperation among youth in the region.
Both sides agreed that the launch of the first infrastructure project for energy connectivity of the two countries amounting 12 million euros under the Western Balkans Investment Framework is a clear signal that the region jointly approaches towards overcoming challenges. It was also emphasized the excellent cooperation within IPA Cross Border Cooperation Programmes, expressing hope that within the upcoming calls for new projects will be created new opportunities for networkings and partnerships for joint projects on both sides of the border.
At the end of the meeting Osmani and Reka and expressed hope for possible mutual opening of the EU accession negotiations, because that way the two countries can exchange experiences and information about the process.
