State Secretary Blazheska paid a working visit to the USA upon invitation of the US State Department. The visit is realised within the initiative Women Leaders for Peace and Security, and therefore Blazheska had meetings with numerous representatives of the American institutions, international organisations, think tanks and civil society.
In Washington she had meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate and she participated on the panel discussions with representatives of the Atlantic Council, the Institute for Inclusive Security and the Institute for Peace.
In New York, Blazheska visited the United Nations where she took place on a panel discussion on the Resolution 1325 of the Security Council - Women, Peace and Security, and she had a meeting with the CEO of the Women’s Refugee Commission, Sara Costa. Blazheska continued her visit in San Diego where the main topics of the meetings were migration movements. In this context, the State Secretary visited the US-Mexico border, where she was introduced to the methods for fight against illegal migration and the criminal activities related to migration movements.
Blazheska had a meeting with the chief of the San Diego police, Shelley Zimmerman and with the director of the Trans-Border Institute at the University of San Diego, Everard Meade.
Blazheska will finish her visit in Minneapolis, where she will have a meeting with Senator Shawn Day and she will have the opportunity to learn about the processes of integration of migrants, refugees and other vulnerable groups in the American society.
