Today at the premises of the Secretariat for European Affairs was held coordination donor meeting related to the devastating floods that occurred this weekend. Deputy Prime Minister of the Goveernment of the Republic of Macedonia in charge of European Affairs, Arbr Ademi PhD, chaired the meeting, and Mr. Nikola Todorov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government and Minister of Health, Mr. Ilija Isajlovski, Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs (to be confirmed), and Mrs Louisa Vinton, UN Resident coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative and Mr. Martin KLAUCKE, Head of cooperation at the EU Delegation in Skopje had their address at the meeting.
Deputy Prime Minister Ademi said that the purpose of the meeting is is to take advantage of the potential for funding by the donors having coordinated approach to direct the aid and underlined the preliminary defined priorities for directing aid to reconstruction and reparation of damaged houses and other important buildings, reparation of the infrastructure and measures for further assistance for protection to SMEs and damaged farms and rehabilitation of agricultural land, as well as direct assistance to the institutions for protection.
It was emphasized that at this stage estimates of the damages are very indicative, but are working on their further clarification. Ademi informed that the Civil Protection Mechanism of the EU has been activated, through which they was made satellite footage of the terrain and their experts to assess are already on spot for estimation of the initial needs of the population.
Deputy Prime Minister Ademi thanked all the donors for their support and called the other international and European stakeholders to provide their contribution, so that Macedonia can adequately deal with the situation.
