"Human rights will be an indicator of the preparedness for EU membership
The comprehensive protection of human rights through the legislative and institutional framework, administrative capacities, and of course implementation, will be one of the main indicators of our country's preparedness to join the EU, from the start to the end of the accession negotiations.
International Human Rights Day reminds us of our duty to protect, promote and respect them, as a basic prerequisite for peace, democracy and sustainable development.
As a negotiating country and a future member of the EU, we must continue to act toward strengthening the protection of human rights.
Our full commitment to the European path, guided by common values, is the best confirmation of our sincere intention to daily improve the position of human rights of all citizens, regardless of their differences.
The military aggression in Ukraine showed that even today the goals of preservation, further improvement and respect for human rights are once again faced with great challenges.
That is why today, when democracy, freedom and the rule of law are being defended on the European soil, more than ever we need to pay attention to the protection of human rights and freedoms, so that we can talk about the future and real progress.
The government remains fully committed to promoting the universal values of human rights with a single goal: building a state in which citizens will feel free, equal, secure and dignified!", is the message of the Deputy Prime Minister on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, which this year is celebrated under the motto "Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All".
International Human Rights Day is celebrated on December 10th, the day the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was the first legal document to establish basic human rights, which should be universally protected. The celebration of this date was introduced in 1950 at the UN General Assembly.
