Today in Brussels, the explanatory meeting for Chapter 19, "Employment and social policy", is being held, where the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs and Chief Negotiator with the European Union, Bojan Maricik, emphasized that the social policy led by the Government is aimed at achieving the goals of the "social and solidarity EU" policy.
In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that in the field of employment and social policy, North Macedonia continuously complies with the relevant EU legislation and institutional capacities, which was confirmed in the last annual report.
- We increased social assistance benefits and continued the implementation of mitigation measures to deal with the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Maricik noted.
In terms of improving non-discrimination policies at the local and national level, as well as improving mechanisms for the protection and statistical data collection, a new strategy for gender equality, the Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination 2022-2026, was adopted, which Maricik singled out as an activity of the achievements in this area.
Recognizing the importance of maintaining high and appropriate standards in the field of health and safety at work, Maricik told the European Commission that North Macedonia has prepared a new Strategy for Safety and Health at Work 2021-2025 and an accompanying Action Plan 2021-2023, in which the EU Strategic Framework for Safety and Health at Work 2021-2027 is taken into consideration.
Negotiations with the EU will contribute to improving the social protection system, increasing the educational level of the workforce, achieving a high employment rate, and banning discrimination in employment.
Two explanatory screening meetings were held today from Cluster 3 Chapter 26 "Education and Culture" and Chapter 19, "Employment and Social Policy".
