The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European affairs, Bojan Maricik, at today's explanatory screening meeting for Chapter 24-Justice, Freedom and Security, announced the signing of the Agreement with Frontex to the representatives of the European Commission.
Deputy Prime Minister and chief negotiator Maricik added that this agreement is a step towards better management of borders and management of illicit migration, which is a common interest of both North Macedonia and the European Union, as it was proven in the past, especially during the migrant crisis in 2015.
In his opening statement, the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Maricik pointed out that the area of justice, freedom and security is an area of particular importance given the growing framework of common rules on issues such as border control, visas, external migration, asylum, police cooperation, fight against organized crime, fight against terrorism, cooperation in the field of drugs, customs cooperation and judicial cooperation in criminal and civil law.
- The professional, reliable and efficient police organization is of great importance in the negotiations with the Union. Migration and border management policies are extremely important and their development affects the direction of the socio-economic development of the country, as well as the direction and control of the measures taken to protect the security of the country and citizens, Maricik said.
The chief negotiator Maricik, in the section on the achievements in the past period in the field of the fight against organized crime, emphasized that North Macedonia at the operational level participates in a large number of joint activities with the EU member states and neighbouring countries, noting that North Macedonia has a wide range at its disposal of strategic documents, which are based on relevant EU strategies in several areas.
- The National Coordination Centre for the Suppression of Organized and Serious Crime continuously undertakes activities for inter-institutional coordination and exchange of data and information between all involved institutions, thus supporting the activities they undertake in the suppression of organized and serious crime, concluded Maricik.
Tomorrow, September 23, 2022, the explanatory meeting for Chapter 24, "Justice, Freedom and Security", continues, where the European Commission, before the Macedonian and Albanian negotiating teams will present the new corpus of the EU acquis adopted in the period after 2018/2019.
