The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, Bojan Mariciк, today addressed the celebration of World Roma Day, where he congratulated the holiday and stressed that it is the duty of all to respect diversity and nurture unity and multiculturalism.
-Roma inclusion policies are among the top priorities of the Government reflected in the four-year work program where, among other things, we commit that during our mandate we will focus on improving social security and development of Roma, said Deputy Prime Minister Maricik, stating that the Government's commitment to the Roma is contained in the recently adopted Strategy for Roma 2022-2030, as well as in the Poznan Declaration adopted in July 2019 in the framework of the Berlin Process.
Deputy Prime Minister Maricik especially emphasized the importance of Roma inclusion in process of European integration of the country and the results achieved in this aspect by using European funds for projects for this purpose. He singled out several implemented and planned projects for Roma in several municipalities, including Prilep, Bitola, Vinica, Shuto Orizari, Veles, Kicevo, Shtip, and Kochani, for which European money has been provided.
- Within IPA III Roma are supported through IPA 2022 Action Document for Improved Health, Social Protection, and, Gender Equality, which provides activities for improved effectiveness of the system for prevention and protection of gender-based and domestic violence through access to specialized and other essential social services, said Maricik adding that the inclusion of Roma will be the focus of the new programs under IPA III for 2023.
Deputy Prime Minister Maricik said that despite all the efforts and results achieved, there are still challenges, that we still need to work together for full inclusion of Roma in society, and that the improvement of the legal and institutional framework for substantial inclusion of Roma in all social spheres.
