Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov was the first foreign guest of the new Minister of State of the Federal Republic of Germany in charge of Europe - Anna Luehrmann.
Deputy Prime Minister Dimitrov presented in detail the achievements and challenges of North Macedonia on the road towards the European Union, as a story of consistency and hope for the European perspective of the region.
Dimitrov: "North Macedonia and the region are part of Europe and although we are not yet part of the EU, the struggle for a united, progressive Europe is our common struggle. Germany is a country in which we see a pillar of Europe as a force pulling towards good and an extremely important partner, both politically and economically.
The Macedonian society is ready for the reform process to bring home the same Europe that you live in, that is the task of our generation. The start of accession negotiations will direct our energy towards the future and make us winners in tackling contemporary challenges such as climate change and bridging the economic gap through deeper cooperation, rather than a retreating past in which we are all losers. Our case is crucially important to the EU's position in the region at a time when the European dream is being shaken, and very important for meeting the goals of the new German government, including the Western Balkans."
State Minister Luehrmann pointed out that North Macedonia has met all the conditions for the start of accession negotiations, due to which its action will be resolutely aimed at achieving this common strategic goal.
The meeting took place on the second day of the new German government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as a sign of the continuity of German positions in their work for Europe based on values and principles and the focus of the Macedonian European file as a key priority.
This activity rounded off a fruitful working visit to Berlin in the days of crucial developments for the future of Germany and Europe.
