OSMANI: WESTERN BALKANS EXPECTS FULL- FLEDGED EU MEMBERSHIP
12:08, Tuesday, November 26, 2019

The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, Bujar Osmani, addressed today at the session of the National Council for European Integration, where the announced new approach to EU enlargement and its challenges were discussed.

"Today's session of the National Council for European Integration is a real platform for discussion on which we can see the whole process of European integration after the October summits, in the light of a new document prepared by France, the non-paper of reforming the methodology, which is a good basis to bring the European integration back on track," Osmani stated, thus pointing out that our country is in front of a new challenge to adapt to the challenges the Union is facing, as well as to approach the need of EU reform of the enlargement process in a constructive manner.

"The content of the initiative itself, as well as  the speed with which France stepped forward with this initiative, shows the proactive role only a month after the October summits, without leaving the reform process unnecessarily delayed, is a proof that, regardless of the changed methodology, the Western Balkan countries the Balkans will have a full-fledged membership in the EU in the end, and at the same time, what is the most important is the opportunity for direct involvement, as a stakeholder, to participate with our comments, views, remarks on the document "- added Osmani.

In this context he emphasised that in the period ahead, i.e. through the process of harmonization that follows, some aspects of this document will certainly need to be defined and refined, which will be important benchmarks of how the negotiation process will develop in the future, as well as the opportunity, through an inclusive process as a country, to make as high a quality and precise contribution as possible within this initiative, in order to obtain a new and quality methodology at the right time that will truly benefit us as negotiating countries, a benefit which will reflect better compliance with the European rules and standards, a benefit that will mean economic, social and civilization progress for all citizens.
