OSMANI: RULE OF LAW- CONTINUOUS BENCHMARK FOR THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATIONS
15:01, Monday, September 16, 2019

During his visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bujar Osmani had a working meeting with the  High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini.

"We are literally 30 days away from the big decision for start of negotiations, which will put a full stop of joint efforts over the past two and a half years to bring the European agenda back in the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as to bring back the enlargement process high on the Union's agenda," Osmani said at the meeting, conveying the government's gratitude for the unselfish commitment of the High Representative for the overall success of this process.

"I assure you that even in this short period ahead of us, we will virtually airtight close any possibility of excuse or scepticism in the member states, and thus deserve to secure the decision for start of negotiations," Osmani said.

At the meeting, Osmani also referred to the latest developments in the country, especially in the area of the rule of law and the fight against organised crime and corruption. "No matter that this is not a formal requirement for the October decision, the rule of law remains our constant benchmark for which I assure you that there will be no concessions, neither in terms of institutional set-up for the fight against crime and corruption, nor on the basis of the continuous "track - record" in the implementation of the rule of law," Osmani said.

During his visit to Brussels, Osmani will also have a meeting with the State Secretary for European Affairs and the Representative of the Republic of Croatia in the EU, Andreja Metelko-Zgombic, and later he will have a working meeting with the Director for the Western Balkans at the Directorate-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Union, Genoveva Ruiz Calavera.

The working visit to Brussels is part of Deputy Prime Minister Osmani's tour visits of the capitals of the EU member states, followed by visits to Berlin and Warsaw later this week.
