OSMANI: WE ARE ENTERING THE KEY YEAR FOR EUROPEAN INTEGRATION OF THE COUNTRY
12:57, Tuesday, January 08, 2019

Today at the Government of the Republic of Macedonia was held the 40th meeting of the Working Committee on European Integrations (WCEI), which was chaired by the Deputy President of the Government in charge of European affairs, Bujar Osmani, where the topics related to European integrations were opened: explanatory screening, the status of implementation of Plan 18, the status of IPA absorption and the distribution of foreign assistance, etc., At the meeting they summarised the key indicators according to them the progress in the European integration process of our country is followed.

At the beginning of the meeting, Osmani made a review of the results of 2018, evaluating it as a historical one from the point of view of European integration, stressing that this year the European integration remains in the focus of the Government, which in the coming months will require concrete results in the implementation of reforms, in particular in the priority areas: judiciary, security service reform, public administration reform and the fight against corruption and organised crime.

"One of the most important indicators for our European integration is of course - the implementation of Plan 18. In that regard, today we will review the activities that have been carried out so far, we will consider the possible challenges in its implementation and, most importantly, we will prepare a realistic assessment of its finalisation in the period until the release of the new Progress report of the European Commission as one of the most important criteria for verification of our progress in the European integrations", Osmani stressed, therefore expressing his satisfaction with the achievements in this field so far, and in all areas.

In addition to the meeting, the status of implementation of the obligations from the bodies' meetings within the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU, as the main function of this body, as well as the status of implementation of the obligations from the assessment missions was also considered.

Within today's meeting of the WCEI, the members were introduced to the current course of the so-called monitoring screening, as well as the schedule of Chapters for this year, because this is a process that enables the administration, which is part of the negotiating structure, that is, the negotiation team and all other stakeholders to prepare for the eventual start of the negotiations.

The Working Committee for European Integration (WCEI) is the highest administrative body of the Government in which the State Secretaries of the Ministries, the Chairpersons of the Subcommittees, the heads of the working groups, the Secretary General of the Government and part of the administration of the Secretariat for European Affairs are members.
