09:21, Friday, June 07, 2013

During his work visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia responsible for European Affairs, Dr. Fatmir Besimi, today, met with Emily Haber, State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office, Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, councillor of Chancellor Angela Merkel; with Peter Weisch, Josip Juratovic and Johann Wadephul of the Eastern Europe Cooperation Group and with Andreas Sschockenhoff, President of the Commission for Foreign Affairs of the German Bundestag.
The conversation was focused on the process of European integration of the Republic of Macedonia, and Deputy Prime Minister Besimi emphasised the progress achieved in the implementation of the European agenda activities. In this respect, Mr Besimi pointed out the importance of the High Level Accession Dialogue, which introduced new dynamics into the implementation of reforms in the five key areas.
According to him, the achieved progress was justly acknowledged in the Spring Report of the European Commission, thereby confirming that the country is implementing its strategic orientation towards EU membership and fulfils the conditions for opening accession negotiations.
Germany once again confirmed its support to the integration process of the Republic of Macedonia and emphasised the importance of putting additional efforts at promoting good neighbourly relations and finding a solution to the name dispute, as well as promoting regional cooperation. Efforts should also be made towards implementing the political agreement of 1 March and marinating the inter-ethnic dialogue.
At the meetings, it was also stated that Macedonia and Germany have an excellent bilateral cooperation.
